FreeStyle Libre 2: A Beginner’s Guide

New to FreeStyle Libre 2? Here's what's in the box and how the pieces fit together.

FreeStyle Libre 2 is one of the more widely used continuous glucose monitoring systems, and it’s made up of a few simple parts: a sensor, and a way to read it — either a compatible smartphone app or a dedicated handheld reader.

The sensor is worn on the back of the upper arm and is designed to last up to 14 days. It continuously measures glucose in the fluid just under the skin.

The reader or app is what you use to scan the sensor and see your reading, a trend arrow showing which direction glucose is heading, and recent history. If your phone doesn’t support NFC scanning, or you’d simply prefer not to rely on an app, our FreeStyle Libre 2 Reader is a dedicated handheld device that does the same job.

If you’re starting out, our Libre 2 Starter Bundle pairs the reader with two sensors — enough for a full first month of monitoring.

Always follow the instructions for use included with your device, and speak with your healthcare provider about whether CGM is right for you.
